Hepatitis C: The Silent Killer

Did you know that you can contract Hepatitis C from something as insignificant and seemingly harmless as acupuncture, a tattoo or body piercing. You can also contract it by sharing razors, toothbrushes, nail clippers/scissors or nail files and other personal belongings or anything that has contaminated blood on it. It is important to be aware of the fact that Hepatitis C is 10 times more dangerous than HIV. Based on research, in fact 90 percent of people who contract Hepatitis C are not even aware that they have the deadly virus that eats away at the liver, slowly but surely. It is often only after several years that it becomes clear to the person that he has Hepatitis C.

Many people who have Hepatitis C are not diagnosed, which is a serious problem in itself as they can be a carrier of the virus and infect others. Therefore, reliable information and education to raise public awareness about Hepatitis C is very important to curb the spread of this deadly disease.

Blue Bird Group in cooperation with PT. Roche Indonesia have taken the initiative to educate the public about how Hepatitis C is contracted and how it can be prevented in a program that began in April 2009. This information is being distributed through the Blue Bird taxis in the form of a information booklet that is kept in a pouch on the back of the front seat of the taxi. In the first phase of the program, the booklets will be made available in 1000 Blue Bird Group taxis.
